My Own Poetry (The Repeated Knock)

The Repeated Knock

By: Taylor DeVito

The knock of the door sent a chill down my spine
I dropped to the floor and remained silent
But nothing changed
A constant knocking at my door
Hours passed by with my eyes blood shot red
But nothing changed
All I could hear was
A constant knocking at my door

I'd had it with hiding and locking in my voice
Grabbed protection and stomped to the door
Being everything but silent
Stomping, Screaming, and Banging
And then
Something changed
I could hear plenty of things except
A constant knocking at my door

After this odd night I jollied into bed with my bagged eyes
Laid my head on my pillow
It was quiet
I was hoping that nothing would change
All I could hear was my breaths
But as soon as my sleep reached its peak
Something changed
All I could hear now was
A constant knocking at my door

Defeat rolled over
I thought I won this battle
But the knocking returned
Not only did the knocking return
It became louder
Faster
And more obnoxious than the first time before

But I didn't jump the bullet
I didn't drop to the floor
I didn't make any ruckus
But I did lay in bed
I did stay silent
I did quench my eyes tightly
In hope that this knocking would stop

But it didn't stop
It didn't get quieter
It didn't leave my ears
But it did ring in my mind
It did scare me
It did get louder
In hope to underestimate me

Again I'd had it with hiding and locking in my voice
I skipped the protection and stomped to the door
Being everything but silent
Stomping, Screaming, and Banging
And then
Something changed
I could hear plenty of things except
A constant knocking at my door

After this odd morning I jollied into bed  for the second time with my bagged eyes
Laid my head on my pillow
It was quiet again
I was hoping that nothing would change this time
Still all I could hear was my breaths
But as soon as my sleep reached its peak
Something changed
I bet you know what happened next at this moment
A hopeless and never ending cycle
